Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in style, travel, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

In high school, I really didn't like the area I called home. It wasn't until I moved away that I grew a great appreciation for Detroit, Michigan. And with the city's come back on the rise, Detroit is the place to be.

There are so many new restaurants popping up all over the downtown area. I've yet to try them all, but here are a few must-try's if you find yourself in town.

Dime Store 一 This place is so cool. It's a great spot for brunch, lunch, and booze, and is inside the Chrysler House in downtown Detroit. There is always a long wait because it's so good and trust me, you will want to stay.  Downtown.

Townhouse 一 Basically a staple. There's one in downtown Detroit and in the suburb of Birmingham, but the one downtown is much more...Instagram-able. The food is great and it's open for lunch, brunch, dinner, and is kid-friendly.  Downtown.

Takoi 一 I'm not usually into Thai food, but this place is just the best. Formerly known as Katoi, it opened in January of 2018 and is the newest restaurant to hit the city of Detroit. If you're down for a cool vibe-y place to eat, definitely check out Takoi. Corktown.

The Apparatus Room 一 Inside the Detroit Foundation Hotel, this place is for sure on the romantic side, good for a date night. Though more selective, it is still high on the list of Detroit recommendations and a must try. Downtown.

Central Kitchen 一 this restaurant was featured in a blog post about my favorite restaurants, which you can read here, and of course, I have to bring it back for my Detroit guide. It's a pretty place in the heart of center of the city that you have to try for brunch. Downtown.

Since I live here, I haven't really had the experience of staying in these hotels, but I most certainly have been to them. Here are my favorites.

The Westin Book Cadillac Hotel 一 At 33 floors tall, in 1924, this was the tallest hotel in the world. The hotel closed in the 80's and broke ground again in 2007 to become once again a staple hotel in downtown Detroit. Downtown.

El Moore 一 A unique place to stay in the Midtown neighborhood in Detroit, the building has been standing since 1898. Serving as a residence and urban lodge, El Moore has stunning interiors, will offer sustainable urban living and is just steps away from all of the activities that are located along Cass Corridor. Midtown.

The Siren Hotel 一 Literally the best place in the city. A swanky and cool vibe surrounds this place with the most gorgeous interior ever. It features quite a few different style of rooms, one including bunk beds. DowntownTap to view all photos

MGM Grand Casino & Hotel 一 Get a taste of Vegas right here in Detroit. Downtown.

I think that this is the most underrated part of the city. There are some amazing gems down there.

Woodward Avenue 一 Stores are popping up all over downtown Detroit which so exciting! You can find a variety of places such as John Varvatos, Nike, Lululemon, Shinola and more. Downtown.

Eldorado General Store 一 This place is a curated shop with vintage clothing, home goods, jewelry, and more from across the country.  Corktown.

Nora 一 The best place to find a gift while enjoying a minimalist-Scandinavian inspired interior. With a variety of designers, Nora has contemporary wall art, furniture, and leather goods. Midtown.

Eastern Market 一 Endless produce from local farmers and overall a very interesting place to spend time while in the city. Eastern Market.

So much to do, so little time!

Detroit Institute of Arts 一 The DIA is a must. Three levels of stunning American and European art and sculptures. Also, there is an extremely photogenic marble staircase with great lighting making it the perfect photo-op. Midtown.

Belle Isle Island 一 A small island right in the middle of the Detroit River between Michigan and Ontario, Canada. It's a great spot to go and relax in the summertime while still getting that city feel. Also be sure to check out the conservatory while you're there! Downtown.

Detroit Riverfront 一 Take a walk and enjoy the city views of both Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. Downtown

Campus Martius Park 一 The park at the center of the city. In the summertime, there's cafes and restaurants all around with a grassy sitting area to enjoy the warm weather. In the winter, the park turns into an outdoor skating rink that I visit every year. It's the cutest little spot. Downtown.

Sporting Events 一 No matter the season, there is always a sporting event going on in Detroit. With the newly built Little Caesars Arena being home to the Red Wings {hockey} and the Pistons {basketball}, all Detroit teams have their home games played walking distance from each other. {Lions football at Ford Field and Tigers baseball at Comerica Park}. Downtown.

Explore the Neighborhoods 一 Each Detroit neighborhood has something different to offer than the next. Corktown, Greektown, Midtown, Mexicantown, Downtown, {lots of -towns}, and Eastern Market and more.

Detroit doesn't get enough credit for the great city that it is and I hope this post shines some light on the wonderful place that it is.
