WEEKEND IN CALIFORNIA
Hi, here is my long overdue recap of my quick trip to California in late January! Cue California Love by Tupac.
At the end of last month, I headed out to San Jose, California for the NHL All Star Game at the SAP Center. It was one of the best ways to start off my year and escape from the blistering cold temperatures in Chicago for a few days, especially since I’ve never been to California! Unless you count a few layovers at LAX, but you don’t.
Let me start off by saying that San Jose is so much cuter than I thought it was going to be. I really didn’t have any expectations going into it, and I was impressed. Right after we landed, we got lunch at The Farmer’s Union. I wish I had a better photo, but I was starved and couldn’t wait to eat. I promise, even though mine looks very unappetizing, it was delicious. I’m always down for a good burger.
After eating, we settled in and freshened up after our long flights. We went to the Westfield Valley Fair mall and shopped around Santana Row—met some AMAZING girls who work in the Lululemon there who I literally want to be friends with in. Following each other on Instagram will have to do for now :)
After shopping, we went to In-N-Out and it was my first time eating there. I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype, and I have to rate it a 8/10. Not a hater, but I’ll definitely stick to Shake Shack.
The next day, before the All Star Game Skills Competition that evening, we took a day trip down to Santa Cruz and Capitola.
By the way, you can shop all of the looks I wore in California in
this blog post.
I took a million photos of the palm trees because I don’t see the sun for days in Chicago and I need to be able to mentally transport myself back to warm weather. Why do I live in the Midwest again?!
I also have a million photos of the back of my head in front of these colorful houses in Capitola. I obviously just love my hair.
Soon after we headed back to San Jose for the Skills Competition. It was so cool to see everyone who won in their skills category and to see the fans from all over the League in one arena. The SAP Center put on an amazing show.
The next day, before the All Star Game, we took another day trip. This time, it was up to San Francisco. We of course, had to be incredibly touristy and start our day off at the Golden Gate Bridge. The view was so pretty of the bay. Here’s Mackenzie and I and the only good photo we got at the Bridge—ha.
More palm trees of course.
After San Francisco and barely making it back in time, we went back to the SAP Center for the All Star Game. The SAP Center had these light up bracelets on every seat and they lit up with every player being called with their team’s colors and more. I felt like I was at a Taylor Swift concert but it was cool.
The next morning was our last in San Jose. We grabbed coffee at Academic Coffee and took a quick walk around Plaza de Caesar Chavez to see all of the All Star decorations one last time before heading to the airport.
It was just barely 8 in the morning and everything was pretty and the lighting was great. We love it.
Then back to Chicago it was…with a layover at LAX—deja vu.
Writing this post made me miss the warmth and the sun and the palm trees. I’m already looking into my next trip back to visit some more of Californiaaaaaa!
